IDS is an independent engineering and systems technologies company providing research, innovation and products in the air navigation, unmanned, electromagnetic and radar fields for both civil and defense applications. Since 1980 IDS has specialized in providing consulting services for high-tech engineering projects and in developing integrated software solutions and hardware systems for Defense and Civil Industries, Government Agencies and Research Establishments requiring a specific and highly specialized technical support for special projects and complex programs.
IDS is organized into Divisions. Each Division is focused on a specific market and provides its customers with specialized solutions by means of skilled personnel, who consistently integrate experience and knowledge into design framework and hardware systems, working procedures and industrial quality standards. The Divisions are supported by IDS’s laboratories which represent an integrated capacity based on highly qualified core competencies.
The Air Navigation Division develops and supports highly customizable commercial software solutions for both civil and military customers in the areas of communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management. It provides integrated systems for instrument flight procedure design and ground validation, a comprehensive suite of applications for aeronautical information management, navigation aids performance assessment, radar siting and electromagnetic compatibility analysis. IDS also provides a range of services for ANSPs and airports which include the design of flight procedures, creation of aeronautical charts and AIPs, obstacle charting and risk and impact assessments through the use of simulators.
The Aeronautical and Unmanned Systems Division designs and manufactures rotary and fixed wing aerial vehicles with maximum take-off weights of under 5.5kg up to 150kg (with the possibility of 180kg for maritime applications). These UAVs can perform a wide range of missions including reconnaissance, surveillance, aerial monitoring, aerial photogrammetry, maritime patrol, and search and rescue. IDS also produces a range of ground control stations, from small man-portable units to separate desk mounted systems for pilot and payload operator. In addition to the systems themselves, IDS can also provide training for both pilots as well as payload operators.
The ElectroMagnetic Engineering Division has extensive experience of developing integrated electromagnetic prediction software for stealth design, infrared signature minimization, EMC/EMI risk assessment and mitigation, radhaz safety and antenna design on naval, aeronautical and satellite platforms. In addition it also designs and manufactures measurement systems for radar and infrared signatures as well as EMC/EMI. This expertise is also applied to the design and manufacture of onboard equipment such as antennas for satellite communications. The Division also have the capability to provide a range of measurement, assessment and design services in a wide range of electromagnetic areas such as radome electromagnetic qualification, radiated emissions and susceptibility (RE/RS) analysis of satellite communication modules, engineered materials, automotive, radar and infrared signature.
The Radar Division has a long history of developing and manufacturing innovative radar systems for a large range of applications. This leading-edge knowledge and capability is now utilized in the design of radar systems for safety monitoring and threat detection for both civil and military use. These include radar systems for volcano plume monitoring and obstacle detection on high speed railway lines and at level crossings as well as radars for the detection and localization of incoming small weapons and mortar fire, the location and classification of IEDs and mines and the detection and location of hostile or unauthorized UAVs.

The ElectroMagnetic Engineering Group (EEG) of the IDS R&D Laboratories and the EME Division are involved in the Project. Considering the issues relevant for the Project, both teams are currently working in developing algorithms, numerical codes and companion procedures (CAD, meshing, processing, graphics). These tools are integrated into user-friendly commercial CAE products allowing design and optimization activities in a wide range of applied electromagnetism field: EMC, EMI, indirect effects of lightning, EMP induced interferences, HIRF, scattering & signatures, antenna design, etc. The EME Division and the EEG group have more than 20 year experience in providing consultancy services to aeronautical industries in the EMI/EMC, HIRF and indirect effect of lightning risk assessment and mitigation for aeronautical platforms: pattern distortion, coupling evaluation, electromagnetic interference among co-installed systems, radome analysis, optimal cable shielding and routing to minimize disturbance propagation induced by external fields or lightning strike.
In this context, IDS will contribute to WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP5 about IS in CEA as well as antennas on CEA.
